Reading the book ‘Leslie Beck’s Longevity Diet – The Power of Food to Slow Aging and Maintain Optimal Health and Energy’, can make you feel as fit as two of the world’s highest percentage of active and healthy centenarian (Sardinia, Italy & Okinawa, Japan). This book educates people on adopting healthy living strategies right in the comfort of your own home, to help increase your chances of living a long, healthy life, beyond 100 years.
I couldn’t imagine a greater gift than living to 100, having good health, and being an active part of the community and my grandkids’ lives.
In Longevity Diet, well known author and nutritionist, Leslie Beck examines the lifestyle of these centenarians who maintain a healthy diet and live a life with a sense of purpose and commitment to family and community, often with a strong religious or spiritual connection.
It sounds quite simple – there are 6 habits to follow for longevity and healthy living, including eating nutrient rich foods that promote longevity and prevent disease. There are just enough biological and physiological explanations on how substances in healthy foods react at a cellular level to counter oxidative stress and reduce inflammation to understand the need for eating healthy foods.
In addition to an easy-to-follow 5 step strategy to longevity, Beck gives great tips and delicious recipes to incorporate the 25 top foods into your everyday diet, such as almonds, avocados, lentils and more. She also talks about which foods to avoid, ones with high sodium, processed meats and refined starches.
If we can approach this journey towards longevity one step at a time we’ll be well on our way to slowing down the aging process and bringing vitality into our lives for decades to come. Maybe we’ll even get to meet our great grandkids too!
